Born on May 8, Rohit Bal is a well-known Indian fashion designer who has created exquisite ensembles for both men and women. The ace fashion designer – who began his career in 1986 and debuted his first collection in 1990, passed away yesterday (November 1) at age 63 after suffering a massive heart attack. As confirmed news of his demise spread online, several Bollywood celebs took to their social media handles to pay tribute and respect to the designers.

Karan Johar and Sonam Kapoor too took to Instagram and remembered Rohit Bal. The duo shared emotional posts as they mourned the designer and revealed how they were unknowingly dressed in his festive creations when they heard of his demise. Scroll below to check out their posts.

Karan Johar on unknowingly wearing Rohit Bal on Diwali

A while ago, Karan Johar took to his Instagram handle and shared an emotional note remembering Rohit Bal. Sharing a lengthy note alongside pictures of himself looking dashing in a festive piece crated by Gudda, Karan wrote, “I saw Gudda’s collection and show and as always marvelled at what a stunning artist, craftsman, fashion legend he is … I say this with a heavy heart and in the present tense because his art and irreplaceable contribution to the fashion industry will remain forever …”

KJo further added, “I told myself that I wanted to wear his latest collection on Diwali.. and requested for some of his stunning pieces … unknowingly last night I wore him and clicked some images and got into my car and then read the heartbreaking news of his passing …he is a pioneer and a bonafide legend and will be missed by everyone’s lives he touched …. Rest in peace Gudda…”

Sonam wears Gudda’s creation on Diwali

Rhea Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor shared a joint Instagram post revealing details of the actress’ Diwali look. Sonam’s look for the evening consisted of her wearing three pieces created by Bal – an intricate white gown paired with a rich-looking floral cutour shrug and a rosy elaborate neckpiece. Along with a broken heart emoji, they captioned it, “@sonamkapoor in Gudda for Diwali Forever and Ever. In Rohit Bal ‘Husn-e-Taihrat’ 2015 ‘Kroshni’ 2016 ‘Kaynaat’ 2024”

Sonam Kapoor also shared an emotional note on her Stories showing love for the late designer. The note read, “Dear gudda l hear about your passing on my way to celebrate diwali in your gorgeous creation that you generosally lent to me for the second time l’ve been blessed to have known you and worn you and walked for you multiple times. I hope you’re at peace. Always your biggest fan. (sic)”
